Country cost of living was calcuated with government and open source data. Tourist Average Daily Cost of Living was determined with a focused group, which led to the assumption that people spend 65% more when traveling. Cost included: local transporation, housing, food, water, and entertainment.

Most Popular Countries was generated using the 2019 United Nations World Tourism Organization’s Country Most Visitors dataset.

Each dataset is for the entire country, thus it might not reflect region specific cost of living e.g. New York City vs. US.

This map is only a reference to travel, thus should not be the primary reason to travel. Moreover, traveling is a privilege, thus social responsibility should be an active element in trip planning, especially during social, environmental, and/or economic down time.
